At the age of 43, my hair seems to be thinning by the day and at the rate it’s disappearing, I’d be surprised if I’m not shaving my head by my 44th birthday. Has anyone tried anything that significantly reverses hairloss?
Things I have tried - minoxidil 5% will definitely slow things down but won’t stop it.
Topical finasteride - I created my own solution crushing pills and mixing it in minoxidil. You gotta play around a bit. I tried 1 mg per application and within minutes felt this overwhelming sense of dispair and doom. So I cut it down to 0.25mg per application. Felt better. Hair got slightly thicker from it. When I stopped it slowly started to thin again. I did this because I felt it was stopping me from building muscle.
RU58841 - this I used for about a month with no change. I stopped because I could feel my heart pounding way harder at night after using it. There is some evidence it affects your heart.
Natural based supplements - hard to tell if these work but most have health benefits so it wouldn’t hurt.
Recently started using iodine as a have an interactive thyroid. Let’s see how this goes.
I get some red light on my head when I can and I comb/massage it to improve blood flow.
So many things with hairloss. Sadly to some degree it does seem that genetic predisposition really does matter. I also am stubborn and decided i’d rather lose my hair than risk the side effects of low DHT.
Of course nutrient status, stress levels, and circulation also have a huge impact but I think DHT may still be the strongest depending on ones genetics
Do not use Minoxidil or Finasteride, look up PFS. Both of those inhibit DHT which is actually the most potent horomone in your body for mood, libido and many other things, along with free testosterone. Finasteride has the potential to literally make you a-sexual and have permenant anhedonia. DO NOT USE IT. If you are going bald, you are going to go bald, there is no saving it. Hair transplant is the only savior.
I use topical minoxidil foam, 5% once per day. I don’t notice any side effects including anhedonia or low libido. It wasn’t working for me until I started using retinol night cream a few nights per week. You can also try microneedling at 5mm with 16pin needles and scalp massage. Just look up how to microneedle properly and wait 24 hours to use topical treatments.
I would avoid anything taken orally, but I do take gotu kola and horny goat weed for other reasons, and those might help.
