Prolactin levels are too often forgotten about in the world of Hormone Optimization.
Prolactin Levels on a standard reference range are “normal” between 2-18 ng/ml. However most would agree that optimal for a mans health would be < 8ng/ml
What does optimizing Prolactin levels grant us??
- Lower Refractory Times
- Higher Libido
- Higher Testosterone
- Better Mood
- Tighter skin and muscle tone
- Higher Motivation
Prolactin levels can be a reliable marker for tissue levels of estrogen (high prolactin = high estrogen) as well as ones own dopamine levels (higher prolactin = lower dopamine).
This is also why many dopaminergic drugs are used as anti-prolactin drugs and tend to help with low libido, erectile issues and more!
If you’re looking for more of the nitty grittys on the science behind all the mechanisms I highly suggest checking out Lucas’s own videos on it!
So what are some OTC things that work for potentially lowering prolactin?
- Coffee!! Yes! That manly man drink you love so much? It actually is helping improve your manhood! It improves 5ar sensitivity, raises D2 receptor sensitivity and thus helps with prolactin!
- Vitamin E: In the 400iu range it seems to be a decent aromatase inhibitor and lower prolactin moderately. It also acts as a great antioxidant in the leydig cells and has shown to improve sensitivity to LH (making you respond to androgens better!)
- B vitamins, specifically B6 has been shown to really help lower prolacitn - however I never really suggest dosing any individual vitamin in high amounts alone for a myriad of reasons. I personally have found that well formulated B complex’s can help to raise dopamine and lower prolactin when diet and foundations are in place.
- Mucuna Puriens can be a pretty potent dopaminergic herb for many and does have some studies backing its ability to lower prolactin
- Tribulus!! This is probably at the top of the list for me personally when it comes to herbs. I have had great success with this herb for overall libido and performance. Studies have also shown that it can reduce prolactin by as much as 60%!!!
Thats it for now folks. Would love to hear what others have found successful!!
